5 Fall Punchlist Items for Tampa Homeowners

Replace outside bulbs with LEDs

Fewer daylight hours in the fall means your exterior lights will be on longer. You can do the math from here. LEDs are brighter than their inefficient counterparts and run very cool in comparison. Cha ching.

Get your dryer vent professionally cleaned

It's not enough to clean out your lint trap after each load of laundry. If your vent goes to the roof, definitely hire a professional to clean it out once a year. If your vent does not go to the roof, also hire a professional to clean it out once a year.

Clean out your gutters

Falling leaves from all our big, beautiful trees (and the scrawny ones too) create a major gutter issue. It happens like this: Downspout gets clogged, leaves collect in standing water, leaves rot. But wait, there’s more: Water runs over your gutters and down the sides of your house. You probably won't notice the damage behind your siding, in your window frames and under your flooring until serious harm is done.

Seal cracks around windows and doors

Cracks release all that precious, precious air-conditioning. No one who lives in Tampa thinks it’s weird I’m talking about air-conditioning on a fall checklist. So seal up those cracks with caulk and weather-stripping to save bucks on your electricity bill.

Replenish your disaster supply kit

Hurricane season is in full force through November 30th, so this is the right time to make sure your kit is replenished, refreshed and ready to go. Here Tampa’s official Disaster Planning Guide should you need it, and be sure to keep this pet emergency info sheet with your emergency essentials.
