Tampa Gets Florida’s First Polestar Dealership
Ever heard of the EV Polestar? Tampa is getting the Swedish auto manufacturer’s very first Florida dealership. Look out, Tesla!
Polestar is a Swedish brand of electric cars founded in 1996, but let’s back up for a sec.
Volvo Cars Tampa (6008 N Dale Mabry Hwy) is owned by Danny O’Malley. Danny’s Volvo dealership started selling Polestars last month. Polestar means to give Tesla a little competition. “A lot of people have had Teslas,” Danny says. “Last month we had four trade-ins where they traded their Tesla for a Polestar 2, because they were looking for something different.”
There are only 20 Polestar showrooms in the US, but more are coming. By April, Polestar will have a dedicated showroom in Midtown—Florida’s first. It’ll be small, only 2500 sq ft, which is right in keeping with its “Maximal experience, minimal impact” motto.
Volvo owns 50% of Polestar but they’re separate companies. O’Malley, who will run the Midtown dealership, wants to get as many test drivers as he can to show off the product. Field trip!
Get to the point: The sporty Polestar 1 can run north of $150k, but your basic Polestar 2 starts out around $50k.
