Year in Review: Best Interior Glow-Ups of 2022
You don’t have to be a realtor slash stager to love a great renovation. Seeing a space go from *yawn* to *WOW* never gets old. Sometimes a simple coat of paint will dramatically change a space, while other remodels call for a little sawdust. Either way, great results are nothing short of magical. This year has given us some amazing transformations, so let’s look back on 8 memorable makeovers from 2022!
This beautiful space is so much bigger and brighter with updated furnishings and fixtures, architectural beams and wonderful all-over white. Layered whites highlight the home’s best features while keeping it inviting. The millwork is super crisp while the natural wood and soft surfaces offer an earthy complement.
Adding a banquette changed everything, including increasing seating in small space from 4 to 6 (and more if you’re friendly). Lots of bright white balanced by colorful throw pillows, artwork and accessories totally transformed this drab dining area into the happiest spot in the house.
The “before” was lovely to begin with, but the gorgeous original wainscoting and crown molding was all but invisible in the pale color scheme. Aaand, the cool shades of white and blue enveloping the dining table and chairs didn’t quite mesh with the warm wood sideboard and gilt mirror.
It takes a healthy amount of imagination to drag a very dated space into the current century. If it weren’t for the windows, you would be hard-pressed to believe both these kitchens were in the same home. While moody grays and natural woods have been having their moment for a while, the look is timeless.
This skylit bathroom was elevated several notches by the bold use of black and white, retro revival fixtures, super functional cabinetry and distinctive buffalo-check tile. Ample natural light illuminates the contrast between the white and gray walls and trim and dramatic black ceiling.
This homeowner wanted to feel like she was on vacation every time she stepped into her bedroom at the end of a long day. Mission fully accomplished vis-à-vis layered coconut shell panels on the pitched ceiling and a serene seaside palette serving up beach retreat vibes.
Proof that you don’t necessarily have to alter the footprint to create change. This dreary cookie-cutter bathroom was metamorphosed into an epic sanctuary with new cabinetry and lighting, better storage solutions, a large, light-reflecting mirror and ample use of wonderfully tranquil tile.
This show-stopper may be a little much for a main kitchen, but small spaces, like a downstairs kitchen in a multi-family home, cry out for bold design! With color being the key ingredient, the efficient use of this modest space turned drab into fab. It now serves all the fun AND provides all the function.
